Breast cancer facts to consider:
- Compared to White women, Black women have a 4% lower incidence rate of breast cancer.
- Compared to White women, Black women have a 40% higher breast cancer death rate
The US Preventive Services Task Force (USPSTF) recommends screeing mammogram every two years for women ages 50-74 years. A cancer modeling simulation using race specific inputs showed that 1) initiating screening 10 years earlier (age 40 yr) reduced Black-White mortality disparities by 57%
The newly revised US Preventive Services Task Force issued in 2023 recommends that ALL women get screened every 2 years starting at the age of 40. USPSTF acknowledges that more evidence is needed to better understand if Black women would benefit from different screening strategies.
