According the American Cancer Society, paps are no longer the preferred test for cervical cancer screening. The American Cancer Society Guidelines for the Prevention and Early Detection of Cervical Cancer include high risk HPV testing beginning at 25 yr of age, repeat HPV testing every 5 years, and with a negative HPV screening- discontinuing HPV screening at age 65 years.
